Monument to Gavrusha, the Dog
13, Pravdy st.
The kind dog Gavryusha has been "wandering" around the city since 1999. Initially, the monument was installed on Malaya Sadovaya street as a part of a complex of small sculptures, but since June 1, 2007, the square on Pravda Street, next to the St. Petersburg State Institute of Cinema and Television, has become its permanent residence. The idea of creating the monument belonged to the Guild of blacksmiths and artists of St. Petersburg, and it was brought to life by sculptor V.A. Sivakov and architect L.V. Domracheva. The prototype was a stray dog, which was picked up by the author of the work. Curiously, at first he called her Gavrosh, but when it turned out that it was a girl, he had to change her name to Gavrusha.
The sculptural composition is made from wrought iron in the style of modernism. The work on the monument was carried out at the blacksmith factory under the supervision of the artist A.G. Kuznetsov-Sergeev. The small monument to the dog Gavrusha grants wishes.
