The Nevsky Plant History Museum
Obukhovskoi Oborony pr., 51
Nevsky Plant has a rich history. It was founded in 1857 by an Englishman Thomson and has changed many specializations during its existence.
In the XIX century, as a shipbuilding enterprise, the plant produced more than 200 warships. In the XIX-XX centuries, during the development of railway construction, the plant mastered the production of steam trains and ended up making over 4,000 carriages. In the 1920s, the plant was included in the country’s electrification plan and changed its profile to power engineering, and in the 1930s it made a name for itself as the manufacturer of Russia’s first centrifugal turbomachine for supplying air to a blast furnace.
A new stage in the development of the plant began; production of new complex machines (compressors, gas blowers, turbines, steam boilers) was mastered at a high pace. In 1958, the production of gas turbines and gas pumping units for main gas pipelines began. This determined the main profile of the plant’s activity in subsequent years.
Currently, Nevsky Plant is a modern production complex specializing in high-tech products for the power engineering industry.
Visiting is organized only by appointment, as part of an excursion group.
