Four unique eco-trails near St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is a city of all-season tourism. It attracts guests not only with its amazing architecture, but also with the picturesque nature that surrounds it. A great idea for a nice weather break is to head out of town and take a walk along one of the walking trails.
1. Eco-route “Sestroretskoe boloto” (Sestroretsk marsh)
The three-kilometer route through the nature reserve begins near the Beloostrov station. This is one of the most equipped and comfortable walking routes near St. Petersburg. A wide wooden flooring is laid across the entire territory of the marsh, which is convenient to walk on in any weather.
Local landscapes will help you imagine what these places looked like before the city was built. Along the way you can meet rare birds and animals; along sections of the trail there are stands with information about them.
2. Duderhof Heights
The highest eco-route of St. Petersburg is in the village of Mozhaiskoye near Krasnoe Selo. It passes through Nagorny Park, through Orekhovaya Mountain. Along the way, you will come across several observation platforms that offer beautiful views of the city. You can navigate using convenient signs. These parts have their own microclimate, and on the mountain there is a Petrovsky spring with clean and healing water. These places are especially beautiful in golden autumn.
3. Eco-route “Western Kotlin”
A new eco-trail for walking on the territory of the Western Kotlin reserve in Kronstadt begins at the northern gate of the Shants fortress. The wooden boardwalk passes through the forest, the old railway and the Fortress Canal. The route is circular, its length is only one and a half kilometers, it`s both picturesque and not tiring. The trail leads to a quiet beach where you can relax and have a picnic. Northern nature, fresh air and the Gulf of Finland are the recipe for a perfect day.
4. Lindulovskaya Grove
A unique natural reserve, founded by Peter I for the needs of the Russian fleet. Ancient Siberian larches grow here, the seeds of which were brought from the Arkhangelsk province. When you walk through the grove, remember that the trees surrounding you are almost 300 years old. The eco-route through the reserve is long - almost five kilometers, but it can be shortened. It goes along a forest river, huge anthills and quiet landscapes. Be strong and follow the signs. The grove is looked after, rare species of birds and animals are found here, you can meet them on a walk.
