The Brusnitsyn Cultural Quarter
Kozhevennaya liniya, 30
The Brusnitsyn Cultural Quarter is a new public space on Vasilievsky Island.
The history of the cultural quarter "Brusnitsyn" is closely connected with the Brusnitsyn family. It is to this family that the Tannery Factory on the Kozhevennaya Line of Vasilievsky Island owes its origin. Having arrived in St. Petersburg from the Tver province, Nikolai Mokeevich Brusnitsyn founded a small tanning workshop in 1847, where only 10 people worked. Gradually, the workshop expanded and turned into a full-fledged factory with 600 workers.
The Brusnitsyns lived next to the factory - the family mansion, located at 27 Kozhevennaya Line, has survived to this day. The mansion acquired its modern appearance in the 80s of the 19th century, when three brothers - sons of Nikolai Mokeevich Brusnitsyn decided to rebuild their parents' house.
During the Soviet era, the mansion housed the factory administration, but some of the interiors of the Brusnitsyn mansion have been preserved and are striking in their beauty.
Currently, on the site of the Brusnitsyn merchants' Tannery, there is an open area with a view of the Gulf of Finland and a landscaped embankment. As a result of the reconstruction, a cultural space has appeared here, where exhibitions, festivals, concerts are regularly held, shops are opened, as well as conceptual bars and restaurants.
